The Field Museum is going wild with a pair of exhibits announced for fall: a returning fan favorite and a new kaleidoscopic display.

“Wild Color” will make its debut in October, showcasing all the hues found in nature. From vibrant gems to animals that glow under ultraviolet light, the exhibit will cover the spectrum of science behind nature’s colors.

The museum is also bringing back one of its most popular traveling exhibits, “Biomechanics: The Machine Inside,” for an encore. The show, which has been on a national tour, is set to reopen in Chicago in September.

“Biomechanics” looks at the engineering behind the bodies of humans and animals — the “how” that allows creatures to jump, swim and fly — and also spotlights technological breakthroughs inspired by nature, including Velco and wind turbines.

The Field Museum is open Thursday through Monday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Currently, all tickets have a timed entry. The museum is limiting visitors to 25% capacity, with masks required. Additional health and safety guidelines are posted online.
